Had a pleasant midday trip from Drummond Island to St. Ignace--just across from Mackinac Island. Unexpected westerly winds greeted us about ten miles out. We took a ferry to the Island for late afternoon sightseeing, shopping and dinner. The Chicago to Mac racers had invaded the Island, with the traditional focal point for race crews--the Pink Pony bar. Sail boats were crowded into the harbors and a festive atmosphere appeared to be assisted by alcohol.
Our group dinner was at the 1852 Room of the Island House Hotel. Wonderful food and atmosphere.
Lyle received a late afternoon call from John, the owner of Jacobson's Marina and Resort in Frankfort, MI advising us that our scheduled travel to Frankfort tomorrow is not a good idea. Strong southerly winds caused large waves today and are forecast again tomorrow. Webb, Steve and Lyle were busy viewing various wave and wind forecasts to see if there might be a window of opportunity early in the morning.
