A DIET TO REMEMBER

I admit my experience with diets comes from reading about them in scientific journals, so I was not familiar with the MIND diet. It is a hybrid of the Mediterranean and DASH diets developed at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. It is not surprising, then, that a study at Rush found that older adults may benefit from the MIND diet, even when they develop protein deposits linked to Alzheimer’s disease. The Rush researchers, writing in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, suggest participants who followed the MIND diet later in life did not appear to have cognition problems. They found a higher MIND diet score was associated with better memory and thinking skills independent of the protein
