CARING FOR THE CAREGIVERS

from the Ohio State University College of Nursing

We likely have heard about the great amount of stress faced by healthcare providers during the Covid 19 pandemic. A new study from the Ohio State University College of Nursing. It notes the problems of burnout and mental health issues were already a problem, but the pandemic made it much worse. More than one-half of the nurses taking part said their physical health suffered by long hours and being short on sleep. Bernadette Melnyk, Dean of the College of Nursing and senior author of the study, concludes our clinicians cannot continue to pour from an empty cup. Fixing issues known to cause burnout and creating wellness cultures are absolutely best ways to make positive and sustainable changes for healthcare workers. The rest of us need to be aware of the difficult job they face every day.
