EXERCISE & DEMENTIA

By February 28, 2025No Comments

Physical exercise offers a variety of health benefits and some of the benefits depend on the intensity of exercise. The latest reported benefit of exercise comes from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Researchers found just small amounts of moderate to vigorous physical activity are associated with lower risk of dementia. Specifically, as little as thirty-five minutes per week was associated with a forty percent lower risk of developing dementia compared to no similar exercise. Greater amounts of moderate to vigorous activity, as you might expect, showed an even greater benefit during the four-year follow-up period. The study suggests increasing physical activity as little as five minutes a day for older people may help reduce risk of dementia.
