NUTRITION KNOWLEDGE GAP

By February 28, 2025No Comments

Teens, especially boys, are not known for healthy food choices. A study of high school athletes found serious gaps in nutrition knowledge. Researchers at the University of Connecticut, University of Wisconsin and George Mason University recruited high school students for a validated questionnaire about nutrition knowledge. Average sport nutrition knowledge was only about thirty-five percent. They were significantly lacking in knowledge about daily recommended amounts of key nutrients, such as need for more carbohydrates, along with when and what to eat to support sport performance. Authors of the article in the journal Nutrients say many of these knowledge gaps may be fueled by inaccurate information on social media.
