EATING DISORDERS

By May 20, 2025No Comments

There has been a perception that eating disorders mostly affect thin, white women. But researchers at Washington University in St. Louis say not so. Their study of nearly thirty thousand college students found the risk of eating disorders is relatively similar across all races and nearly the same for men as women. They call eating disorders a hidden health crisis on college campuses. The study, in the International Journal of Eating Disorders, found thirteen percent of participants showed signs of eating disorders, mostly for bulimic disorders, including the binge and purge syndrome. It also shows eating disorders are often linked to symptoms of depression.
