HAPPINESS IN OLD AGE

By February 26, 2026No Comments

Happiness in old age is the focus of an international team of psychologists. Much of previous research has focused on loss, such as death of a spouse. This study is aimed at gain not loss events, including how late life satisfaction is affected by new relationship, including moving in together or getting married. It evaluated long-term data from people between fifty and ninety-five. The transition to living together with a new partner brought a significant increase in life satisfaction and that increase was evident regardless of whether the couple married at the same time. Returning to the category of life losses, this study revealed, unexpectedly, that older people show remarkable resilience in dealing with relationship breakups.
