No politics intended here, just a statement of our current world from the peer reviewed journal of the American College of Cardiology. A study by New York University Grossman School of Medicine found prior authorization required by some insurers may be doing harm by delaying approval of prescription medications in patients with heart failure—from three to six times longer than prescriptions not requiring prior approval. While such rules are intended to control healthcare costs, the authors say they may instead keep people with heart failure from timely access to life-saving treatments. Findings from this study echo those from interviews and surveys of doctors and patients.
