E-BIKE INJURY STATS

By April 23, 2026No Comments

The rapid increase in e-bike and scooters is also responsible for a rapid increase in injuries. A new analysis from New York University says brain injuries have jumped. The study shows the share of trauma cases seen in hospital emergency departments involving both electric and pedal bikes or scooters increased from less than ten percent to more than fifty percent in a recent five-year period. Another statistic: Fewer than one-third of riders were wearing helmets. Pedestrians hit by e-bikes or scooters were also included in the analysis, since they were almost twice as likely to suffer brain injuries as the riders. Authors urge more and better infrastructure improvements to keep pace with the popularity in bikes and scooters.
