EARLY ADULT WEIGHT GAIN

By May 28, 2026No Comments

Both early adult weight and weight gain across adulthood are associated with risk of a variety of cancers. That statement is part of the conclusion of a study by researchers at Lund University in Sweden. Other significant findings show people who gain the most weight may more than double their risk of certain cancers, specifically liver cancer, oesophageal cancer in both men and women and endometrial cancer in women. Another observation presented to the European Association for the Study of Obesity is a tendency for cancer to be more strongly associated with earlier onset of obesity. Previous research has measured cancer risk at a single point in time, but this study underscores the importance of a life-long perspective for cancer prevention.
