Drinking coffee has been associated with several health benefits. However, the stuff we put in our coffee may make it less healthy by adding calories. Stuff is defined generally as non-dairy creamers, sugar, syrup and dairy milk, but even alcohol and cocoa powder. A Tufts University Freedman School of Nutrition study found that coffee consumption among American adults has remained about the same in recent years the added sweeteners and creamers have boosted calories by nearly fifty percent. The study found the biggest additive jump was in non-dairy creamers, which tend to be high in fat. The study appears in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
