Millions of adults help an older relative or friend manage their daily activities and the numbers are growing rapidly. That report, from a University of Michigan study, found women in this country can expect to provide seven years of care over their lifetime—three more years than men. That difference is only one of several findings from the National Study of Caregiving. However, when it comes to caring for a spouse, men and women were equal in their cfforts. Another observation is the growing number of Americans living without close family who will likely require care outside immediate family networks. The report is in the Journals of Gerontology.
