CURIOSITY AND AGING

By May 21, 2025No Comments

What is the trick to aging successfully? If you’re curious about the answer, you might already be on the right track. So begins a news release about an international study that older adults who want to learn new things may be able to offset or even prevent Alzheimer’s disease. The study also suggests those with muted curiosity or disinterest may be risk for dementia.
The study in the journal PLOS One contradicts the notion that curiosity declines with age. Instead, they defined two types of curious personalities. One tends to accept things at face value. The other includes a passionate thirst for knowledge even as we age. The results fit prior research showing people with early stages of dementia might be less interested in things they once enjoyed.
