ABNORMAL BODY FAT AND ALZHEIMER’S

By December 17, 2024No Comments

Nearly seven million Americans over sixty-five are living with Alzheimer’s disease and unless medical science comes up with a prevention or cure, that number is likely to double in the next several decades. Doctors at Washington University School of Medicine reported to the Radiological Society of North America on their work linking a type of fat to abnormal levels of proteins in the brain linked to Alzheimer’s. They found visceral fat hidden deep inside our bodies is related to the amount of amyloid and tau proteins. This study may be the first to show the relationship between visceral fat at midlife with development of Alzheimer’s up to twenty years later. This team also presented a study showing obesity and visceral fat can reduce blood flow to the brain.
