ALARMING STATS ABOUT HPV

By December 17, 2024No Comments

HPV, short for the human papilloma virus, is commonly associated with cervical cancer, but more recently HPV accounts for seventy percent of throat cancer. Only about one-third of the public is aware of that risk. Even more alarming is that less than seven percent of adults eligible for the HPV vaccine have protected themselves. These statistics come from the National Cancer Institute and recent studies from the University of Southern California. Authors say the data is very worrisome because knowledge is the first step toward disease prevention. Lead author Dr. Daniel Kwon says right now the public is missing crucial information about the link between throat cancer and HPV, as well as the success of vaccines that may prevent it.
