Here is a case showing benefits of exercise even if already obese. The result is healthier belly fat compared to obese people who don’t exercise. University of Michigan researchers found the belly fat in exercisers is different, increasing the capacity to store fat just below the skin rather than the type of belly fat that can interfere with internal organs, such as the liver or heart. Those who exercised regularly showed distinct differences in their fat tissue, increasing ability to store a healthier fat if or when they gain weight. In obese patients who did not exercise, unhealthy fat builds up in and around the liver, increasing risk of cirrhosis or cancer The study appears in the journal Nature Metabolism.
