BRIEF EXERCISES BEFORE BED

By July 30, 2024No Comments

Intense exercise before bedtime is discouraged in current health recommendations, but several recent studies raise questions about that advice. One, in the journal BMJ Open Sports & Exercise Medicine, suggests three short exercise breaks in the four hours before bedtime may improve our sleep time. Participants in the small study were young adults with more than five hours of sedentary time at work and another two hours in the evening. Brief bouts of resistance exercise are credited with an extra one-half hour of nightly sleep. Authors say the exercises are simple to do and don’t require any equipment. A separate study showed getting up and doing two to three minutes of exercise every half hour after a meal reduces sugar and fat in the blood stream.
