CANCER AND EXTREME WEATHER

By February 27, 2024No Comments

Cancer patients have stresses the rest of us may not fully understand, but when you combine their challenges with a natural disaster, such as an extreme weather event, the biological, psychosocial and clinical issues come crashing together. The people at Moffitt Cancer Center Research Institute conducted a review of literature regarding severe weather and the vulnerabilities of cancer survivors. It exposed disruptions in cancer care and distress from events such as hurricanes. The review, published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, revealed the need for better preparation to assist patients immediately after extreme weather, recognizing that the general public may also be dealing with their own storm issues.
