CARING FOR CAREGIVERS

By December 17, 2024No Comments

We are occasionally reminded that caring for a person with a chronic health condition takes a toll on the caregiver, including a range of emotional, physical and financial stresses. A new study looked at family members of patients in intensive care units. The Indiana University School of Medicine teamed with the Regenstrief Institute to address the emotional and spiritual distress of those with family members in ICU and broad role that hospital chaplains can play. They may also help families deal with medical decisions they may need to make. Authors of the study in the Journal of Palliative Medicine note that ICU families have varied backgrounds and beliefs and chaplains may be able to help facilitate better understanding of the patient’s condition.
