Children are not little adults. With that caveat, updated CPR guidelines released by the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association reflects unique resuscitation needs of infants and children. For instance, in infants whose airway is blocked by a foreign object, the updated guidelines call for alternating back blows with chest, not abdominal, thrusts. Older guidelines called for using chest thrusts only. While guidelines for adults and children have been updated, a separate new set of guidelines has been developed for newborns. In both sets of guidelines, complete information is not possible in less than a minute, so please seek out full details at cpr.heart.org or aap.org.
