By July 31, 2024No Comments

Gathering and analyzing statistics lags behind real time. Case in point is newly published information about accidents involving electric scooters and electric bikes. Researchers at the University of California San Francisco report those injuries soared between 2017 and 2022, the last year for which statistics are available. Electric bike injuries doubled each year and e-scooter injuries jumped forty-five percent. The median age for injuries to conventional bikers was thirty, but median age for electric bikers jumped to thirty-nine. Authors of the study in JAMA Network Open found lower helmet use among e-bike riders and risky behaviors, such as riding while intoxicated, was greater than those riding conventional bikes.
