EXTREME HEAT

By July 30, 2024No Comments

Numerous studies link intense heat with health problems, some of which can be deadly. Other issues linked to climate change may, at first, seem less serious. For instance, Drexel University researchers report extreme temperatures are associated with higher numbers of missed medical appointments. Older patients and those with chronic health conditions missed more appointments. Authors wrote in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine that patients who miss medical appointments may put their health further at risk, leading to the need for more medical care the future. They note extreme temperatures may be just one element of risk for vulnerable people—that access to transportation during heat or cold weather could also play a role.
