Of more than a billion people around the globe with hypertension, only about twenty percent effectively manage the health risks. Help may be on the way with a wearable blood pressure monitor that attaches like a flexible bandage for continuous monitoring. Engineers at Seoul Korea’s National University and Carnegie Mellon University say although not yet commercially available, the non-invasive device will eliminate the inconvenience of having to measure blood pressure only occasionally using a traditional inflatable cuff, while offering a practical and long-term way to benefit those with chronic hypertension. The study appears in the peer-reviewed journal Advanced Functional Materials.
