HOLIDAY FAT VS HOLIDAY MUSCLE

By January 30, 2025No Comments

Some of us can measure the recent holiday season in pounds. Data reported in the journal Obesity Science & Practice shows many middle-aged and older adults gain one to two pounds from November to January—not harmful on its own, but people often fail to lose the extra weight over time. Really no surprise so far in the study, but there was an unexpected difference in holiday weight gain between college agers and older adults. It found older people tended to gain their weight in fat, but college students were more likely to gain theirs in muscle. Researchers at George Mason University say while this is a breakthrough finding, they now are trying to learn why the difference. That may point the way toward understanding weight and health in various life stages.
