The link between physical fitness and health in older adults may not be surprising. However, a study of more than thirteen thousand people provides confirmation that objectively measured physical fitness is associated with lower risk of death from all-causes. Researchers in Taiwan reported to JAMA Network Open that measuring balance and agility, lower-body strength and cardiorespiratory fitness incorporated into routine health assessments may guide fitness and function intervention in older adults. We’re not talking about extreme fitness, rather a two-minute step test, thirty-second arm curl and chair stand tests, sit and reach tests and balance and agility tests.
