MUSIC HATH CHARMS TO SOOTH

By October 29, 2024No Comments

It has long been said music hath charms to sooth. A review of existing studies on music by researchers at California Northstate College of Medicine specifically looked for benefits of music for surgery patients. They reported to the American College of Surgeons that patients who listened to music had a significant reduction in pain the day after surgery. The calming effect of music lowered their heart rate and required less opioid pain medication. When patients wake up after surgery, they may be scared and not know where they are. Music can help the recovery to wakefulness. What kind of music provides the benefits could not be determined from the review, but authors advise if you feel up to it after surgery, listen to whatever music you enjoy.
