NOW HEAR THIS

Now hear this! Research offers another explanation of why men and women experience the world differently—specifically the way they hear. University of Maryland researchers presented findings of their study to the Acoustical Society of America about how hormones influence behavior of cells in the brain, including areas of the brain that process hearing. In simple tests, men’s hearing declines earlier and gradually, while women’s hearing fluctuates. This study looks closer on hearing changes related to other biological changes. Ultimately, learning about hearing differences between men and women will lead to treating and managing hearing loss in a more personalized way.
