The bond between dogs and humans is legendary and needs no scientific proof. And yet, more information is coming from the journal PLOS ONE. While canine therapy is widely used successfully in hospitals and schools to reduce anxiety and stress, this study sought to better understand different interactions with animals. Playing with or walking the dog brought relaxation, while grooming, gently massaging increased brain activity linked to heightened concentration. Participants also reported feeling significantly less fatigued, depressed and stressed after all dog-related activities. Researchers say the study provides a better understanding of specific qualities in being around dogs.
