REDUCE RISK OF HEART FAILURE

By February 27, 2024No Comments

How much physical activity is beneficial for people over sixty? Maybe not as much as you think. A new study at the University at Buffalo suggests an average of three thousand six hundred steps per day at a normal pace was associated with twenty-six percent lower risk of developing heart failure. Nearly six thousand women from the Women’s Health Initiative--in their sixties--took part in the study, published in the journal JAMA Cardiology. The women wore an accelerometer for seven days to quantify their level of activity. Authors say a major, unique finding of the study focused on the most common type of heart failure in older women, for which there are few established treatment options. That makes prevention all the more important.
