The vaccine against RSV is relatively new and, while it went through the rigorous scientific approval process, some people might still be skeptical about getting the vaccine. A new, real world study might help. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gathered information from more than a dozen healthcare systems and research centers in this country. Their finding is that the RSV vaccine is highly effective in protecting older adults against severe respiratory disease, hospitalization and death. In the years prior to the RSV vaccine, as many as one hundred sixty thousand hospitalizations were reported and at least six thousand Americans over sixty-five died from RSV. The study appears in the journal Lancet.
