SEATBELTS DURING PREGNANCY

By July 27, 2026No Comments

Seatbelts save lives and limit injuries. However, nearly nine in ten pregnant women fail to wear seatbelts correctly. Researchers at the University of British Columbia say even after being advised about correct seatbelt placement and getting hands on guidance, only about eleven percent of pregnant women in the study followed the recommendations. Pregnant women are advised to wear the shoulder portion of the seatbelt between breasts and the lap portion under the abdomen, but above all, wear them. UBC engineers who conducted the study suggest a review of seatbelt design that could make them more comfortable for pregnant women to wear and yet, provide the safety features for which they are intended.
