SUICIDE LIFELINE

By November 30, 2024No Comments

It has been nearly two years since introduction of a three-digit nationwide suicide lifeline. Awareness has been slow. A series of surveys by Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania shows just fifteen percent of adults are familiar with the 988 Suicide Lifeline despite an eight-month public awareness campaign. Director of the Center, Kathleen Hall Jamieson says the help that can be found at the 988 helpline can only save lives if those in need and their loved ones and friends know the number. The goal is to make 988 as familiar as the nationwide 911 emergency number. Until then, more awareness of the existence of the Suicide Lifeline and the number—988—could use your help.
