SUPERAGERS

By August 29, 2025No Comments

People over eighty with the memory capacity of those three decades younger are called SuperAgers by researchers at Northwestern University. Twenty-five years of studying SuperAgers shows cognitive decline is not an inevitable part of aging. Researchers say they have seen notable lifestyle and personality differences between SuperAgers and people who age typically, such as being highly social with strong interpersonal relationships. The study also found the outer layer of SuperAger brains tend to be more resistant to age-related thinning as well as more brain cells that are critical for memory. The goal is to uncover ways to promote cognitive resilience and delay or prevent dementia. Details are in the journal Alzheimer’s & Dementia.
