TEMPORARY LONELINESS

By July 1, 2024No Comments

Loneliness has long-term health consequences. The surgeon general says combined with lack of social connections, long periods of loneliness are linked to heart disease, stroke, dementia and depression in older adults. Now a new study suggests even people who experience temporary feelings of loneliness are likely to have health issues, including general fatigue and headaches. The study, from Penn State College of Health and Human Development, notes that a lot of previous research is focused on the idea you’re either lonely or you’re not. But if we can understand variations in daily loneliness, the authors say it could bring better understanding and shorter-term negative health symptoms.
